WIP Wednesday: A Dismal Word Count!

WIP

Well La Dee Dah, guess who has the most dismal word count of all NaNoWriMo?  That would be yours truly, weighing in at a whopping 168 words.  I pondered whether or not to be daunted by that, but I decided not to be.  I have spent every single day this month in various doctor’s office while my little girl has been poked, prodded, magnetized, and measured.  I naively thought that I could write in the waiting rooms, but nooooo, I was playing Peek-A-Boo and singing Old McDonald until the other patients begged to die.  The good news is that all of the testing is over, and although they have no idea what caused the seizures, everything looks normal.  So we’ll keep her on the meds until January and reassess.  Do I wish that I had started NaNoWriMo stronger?  Sure.  Do I begrudge what I was doing instead?  Not one bit.  How could I ever begrudge this?

Tiny Daughter

And this weekend I’m going to catch up.

How are the rest of you doing with your writing this week?  Is November going to be a heavy writing time, or are you taking a break?

  1. I have been trying to write (honestly the new job now that I am no longer offically training, I am getting somewhere on it… I can write durning the quiet moments…. which are about a total of an hour at work….

  2. I guess at each moment, the priorities of our lives swirl about. You know exactly where yours need to be that past few days. I’m glad that the testing is over and that the meds work their magic (or some sort of voodoo.

  3. NaNoWriMo is for the boids! I quit. I can’t barrel ahead and not re-read and exorcise the crap I wrote the day before. I just can’t.

Good news is I worked out a sweet storyline for my story.

  4. Oh, Mercedes, your tiny daughter is beautiful!
I’m glad to hear everything looks normal.
November writing for me, I’m gearing up to do more, as I am done with classes and once I finish my last two uni assignments I’m done for the year!
Keep up the NaNo, it’ll happen.

  5. What a cutie. I generally have a bias against all things Oz (being a native Kansan, I’m the butt of that joke too often), but she is precious.

Perspective, perspective. Take care of those little ones.

  6. She couldn’t possibly get any cuter, could she? I’m glad everything looks good at this point. Hopefully they’ll have an ‘ah ha’ moment when they reassess.

Don’t worry about the word count. It’ll happen.

  7. Once you sit down and focus on writing and nothing else (well, sort of kinda almost) everything will pour out. I’ve read much of your works listed, so I know you’ve got the chops to press it out. So glad the little precious is doing better. She is adorable as Dorothy!!

I got a bit pissed (and not drunk I mean)at the book store last night because of the many, many books written in my genre, already published, most in series form of two or more books, which made me think: Why bother? So irritated I ate 3/4 cup of Manzetti carmel (not the low fat one either) to make me feel better. It did! Banged out more of my story today. I still love it, even if I see those stories out there that are similar in idea. Best of luck again with NaNo. You’ll be fine.

  8. Don’t sweat it!! I was at 559 up until yesterday afternoon and now I’m at a whopping 960. Like you, I have big plans for this weekend. Let’s send each other good writing vibes this weekend!!!!!

  9. Big hugs to your little girl–she’s adorable! I’m glad she’s done with the doctor for a while. Hopefully things will settle down and you can get the wordcount climbing.
