1986 Called!

80's hair

1986 called and it wants its hair back!  So this is my chop choppy haircut that is the end result from my stabby stab visit to the salon.  I wore my most ’86 shirt (from what I could remember.  I was seven years old then) and sang about Jem being truly outrageous, truly truly truly outrageous.  This look takes me from grocery shopping with the kids to a bar fight to a biker rally and back again.  Thanks, Salon Guy!

I received an acceptance from the 2010 edition of 52 Stitches and hooray, many of us will be sharing a TOC!  That’s one of my favorite things about this writing business: I love opening an anthology and seeing who is inside.  Which reminds me!  My contributor’s copy of Vicious Verses And Reanimated Rhymes: Zany Zombie Poetry for the Undead Head arrived a few days ago.  My poem and Matt Betts’ poem were originally side by side, but they were fighting and another poem had to come and sit between us.

My poem is first, though.

Tonight I have a NaNoWriMo write-a-thon!  I’m excited for it!  As soon as the kids are in bed, I’m heading over to a local coffeehouse with the Vegas NaNo group and I’m planning to hang out until midnight.  My novel has had to take a backseat to other things in life, but this should help me immensely.  I’m a fast writer.  Not Ray Veen fast, but still pretty fast. Four hours of solid writing time will rebuild my self-confidence.

Rock on!

Google history: journey it’s just the rain, it’s a grind location, the last unicorn cast, .hack//infection trailer, why is it called steampunk, shadow hearts covenant missed treasure “dawn”, i love men wearing fancy hats, the minefield of caddishness

  1. Congrats on all the writing news. Nice hair-do, and would you take it as a compliment if I said in that image, you have a complexion that would make a heliophobic vampire jealous?

  2. I love your hair! I’m trying to remember how old I was in ’86…

Okay, after pulling up the computer’s calculator (I’m terrible, I know) I found out I was six. Which means I’m older than you – GAH! You’re a responsible, married, mom of two, who still manages to write more than I do as a child free singleton. MEEP! I don’t even want to go into how far from adulthood I am at less-than-a-month away from 32. What I’m awkwardly trying to convey is what an impression you’ve made, though I’m sure you’ll be modest and say: “I’m not impressive at all, just doing what I gotta do.” Which I get (I really do, ’cause my own mom managed “impossible” feats throughout my childhood and gave the same response), but I still think you kick major booty. Yay for Mercedes!

Hope you had a great NaNo Meet Up!

  3. I hate that you were seven in ’86, I was a Madonna-wannabe 17/18. Loving the hair, especially the colour.

Oh, and I believe I have a copy of those zombie rhymes in my to be read pile.

  4. Nisa, you’re fiercely loyal. You’d totally giggle at it in person, I assure you.

Damon- You should have seen me when I was living in Seattle and never saw the sun. Translucent, thy name is Mercedes.

Thanks, Catie. Check your blog for a longer reply. You should know that I’m totally jealous of your cute be-socked feet pic.

Natalie, I had the Jem doll (and was Jem for Halloween) but secretly, I really wanted Stormer because she had BLUE HAIR. For a good time, check this out: http://www.jemdolls.com. Jem had a pet llama. Who knew?

    I will, Alan! I will!

Cate, please tell me that you had the lacy fingerless gloves!

Aaron, you obviously didn’t understand the awesomeness that was Jem. Again, refer to her pink llama.

Thanks, Ray. I went to high school in the 90’s where we all dressed like Blossom. Oh, the shame!

  5. i like the haircut! the 80’s are back again anyway, so it totally works (totally is also back again i’ve decided).

1986 is one of my favorite years, as it is the year the world was blessed with my being :^)

  6. That’s a rocking do. for a minute there I mistook you for my bassist. Which is absurd for reasons only you will know…

And I have a feeling that you are singing “Our lips are sealed” in that photo.
