To Celebrate 2010, I Bought A New Vacuum

I like New Years.  Fireworks, friends, and everybody gets all cuddly and nostalgic.  I think it’s fantastic.  I’m also a fan of New Year’s Resolutions because I like making goals.  I like looking back over the past year and seeing if I’m moving forward or not.  I want to be a little bit better every year.  A little nicer.  A little wiser.  A little more accomplished.  Stick with me to the end and hopefully I’ll be made of awesome by the time I’m a smart-mouthed little old lady.

My personal goals are this:

Find an agent.  If I don’t get picked up this year, it won’t be because I wasn’t trying.

Run June’s half marathon without walking. I even have my Nike Plus reporting to my Facebook page, so I can’t skimp on my training or I’ll suffer severe mocking by those who love me most.  And probably some relative strangers, too.

Streamline.  I realized that my life is full of a lot of extras that add nothing but stress.  Some of these things will have to go in order to make room for the things that are truly important.  My chocolate contest entry Tiny Girl was written as a quick little thing, but I realized that it’s actually my biggest problem. Your girl here is overextended.

Last year’s goals were to 1) Do Things That Scare Me and 2) Ride More Shopping Carts. Okay, so I’ve had those goals for about three years now, and I must say that I did better each year. I terrified myself several times, and I’m now the Shopping Cart Champion of the World. It’s time to move on, and that feels great.

What are you planning to achieve this year?

  1. Your Nike Plus reporting to your facebook? That is dedication, my girl. I like it and I like the idea of riding shopping carts. Where are the championships being held this year? I’d like to attend wearing my M&H 4EVA tshirt.

  2. I fully support your half-marathon goal. I think anyone who can run that long deserves a big applause. I hate running, this is probably why I feel this way.

I support your agent goal, too. Even though that means more competition for me 🙂 However, as my dear friend Lindsay says, us English majors have to stick together. (can translate over into writers as a general idea) I definitely agree with her on this. What’s left if there’s no support?

Raising my flute to you, cheers!

  3. Resolutions:
Write my first novel. Bike more. Start running. Query said novel. Get rejected a bunch. Drink some. Get accepted some. Drink more in celebration.

Not sure if those are good goals, but there you go.

I hope your 2010 is excellent, good lady. Publications and cocktails all round!

    Cheers!

  4. If I don’t get picked up this year, it won’t be because I wasn’t trying.… Amen.

I resolve not to run any half marathons in 2010. Though, I might brush the dust off my exercise bike.

  5. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Shopping cart champion of the World? Vegas, Maybe. But the World?

I notice beating me in the challenge wasn’t on the list of things to do this year. Maybe we can both make that resolution next year or perhaps 2012?

  6. My goal for 2010 is to complete a goal I started in June 2008 which is to complete my Private Pilot certificate before I turn 50 years old (which is now this month)…Time sure moves quickly. 2nd goal is to work on finishing up two books I’m working on related to flying. One is a children’s book (writing is complete) now working on illustration ideas. Second is a book on the flight training experience and how it relates to many other aspects in our lives. Several chapters finished-final chapters to work on. I’d like to hear more about the shopping car champion..I’m clueless. As for the half marathon my hats off to you. When my Dad was about 45 he started training for the Twin Cities Marathon. His goal was to run a marathon once in his lifetime. He actually ran 3, the last was after he turned 50. I know how much work and determination it took to get out there and train everyday. Surround yourself with positive, encouraging people and you will achieve your goals most of the time. Stay away from negative people and life generally is much better!!
