Pimp A Friend Friday: MichaelBrent Collings (and me!)

Wait, what, is that my name (among others) on the cover of Michaelbrent’s book? Why, yes it is! And MB explains why.

It’s such a fun, brilliant idea. I read the book and it was an absolute delight. It was full of tension, snark, death, people you love, oracles, guns, and everything that makes a con cool. Plus you know what else makes an appearance? Lula, my ukulele.

I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve ever read by MB (especially Apparition) and this was no exception. The Longest Con should be out on Monday, which gives us something to look forward to. Read something fun, support a writer, and realize that the first time I met Michaelbrent, I really was wearing those rain boots.  Enjoy!

Pimp a Friend Friday: John Boden

jedi

1983: A boy and his little brother wander through a loosely stitched summer. A summer full of sun and surrealism, Lessons of loss and love. Of growing up and figuring it out. Nestled in the mountains of Pennsylvania is a small town, it’s not like the others. Things are strange there- people die but hang around, pets too. Everyone knows your name and sometimes, a thing as simple as a movie coming to the local theatre, is all it takes to keep you going.

If you aren’t familiar with John’s writing, it’s pretty stellar. He has this gritty-yet-dreamy way of telling a story that flips your world upside down. In fact, I had the pleasure of blurbing this story.

“When John Boden tells you a tale, he takes his thumb and smudges the lines between stark realism and dreamy fantasy. I can’t get enough of his work, and I think Jedi Summer might be his deepest piece yet. ”
-Mercedes M. Yardley, author of The Bone Angel trilogy

Pre-orders are available now! I just ordered mine. Jedi Summer with the Magnetic Kid will be released on July 22. Give yourself a literary treat while supporting a very cool and surreal author. You can pre-order your copy here.

John Boden lives a stone’s throw from Three Mile Island with his wonderful wife and  sons. A baker by day, he spends his off time writing or working on Shock Totem. He likes Diet Pepsi and horseradish cheese and  sports ferocious sideburns. While his output as a writer is fairly small, it has a bit of a reputation for being unique. His work has appeared in Shock Totem, Splatterpunk, Blight Digest  and Lamplight  as well as the following anthologies Psychos: Serial Killers, Depraved Madmen and the Criminally Insane, Once Upon An Apocalypse,Robbed Of Sleep Vol 1, and Borderlands 6. His not-really-for-children children’s book, Dominoes is a pretty cool thing or so people say.  You can track him down on the Facebook.

Pimp A Friend Friday: Yarn Baby

I went to school with an intelligent, quirky, AWESOME girl named Shannon. You definitely want her on your robot apocalypse team.

Shannon created a super cool business where she spins and dyes her own yarn. It’s amazing! I bought this bundle of yarn and it’s so soft. I’m hoping to crochet a simple shawl out of it.

Shannon is good people and I love her fiercely. She also has a beautiful, high quality product. You can check her out at Yarn Baby. It’s so cool to see people you grew up with doing the things they love. ❤

Pimp A Nemesis Friday: Matt Betts

Wait, when did “Pimp a Friend Friday” turn into “Pimp a Nemesis Friday?” When I decided to host Matt Betts, of course. He’s my favorite Nemesis ever.

Matt’s new poetry collection is titled “Underwater Fistfight” and it’s poetry for people who think they hate poetry. His work is often funny and poignant.

Poet. Pirate. It’s all the same really. They both pillage, plunder, drink rum, look for treasure, and sometimes, after too many drinks, they’re known to throw a right hook or two. But that’s the beauty of poetry and piracy-it’s unhinged, a stream of emotions that make you laugh, cry, bleed, bruise, and eat oranges to prevent scurvy. It’s an adventure. It’s feeling the wind on your face from the sea or the page. It’s tasting the salt in the ocean or in your tears. But most importantly, it’s the experience of getting from one port to another, one page to the next, killing one more siren and murdering just one more darling.

Matt’s book will be released in early April, but you can preorder your copy now. I already ordered mine. Enjoy, you poet-pirate loving weirdos. 🙂

Pimp a Friend Friday: Armand Rosamilia

There are several things I can say about Armand. He has a big heart, for one. He hosts the Arm Cast Podcast, runs Authors Supporting Our Troops, and wrote the very cool, inspired-by-true-events book Chelsea Avenue.

He also has a book in the running for the Kindle Scout Program. I think there is a week left for voting for his book Dirty Deeds. I’ll let him tell you all about it.

I get paid to erase problems. Did your extramarital affair produce an unwanted complication? Family problems? Just want to enjoy your midlife crisis by yourself? That’s where I come in. For a fee I’ll take care of it. A big fee. Only, I’m not going to do what you think. I’m going to get someone away from you and your selfish world.

I’ll make this post short and sweet so you can get to the most important part… voting for my crime thriller so I can sign an Amazon Scout contract!

I won’t bore you with the details but suffice it to say getting a contract with Amazon would be a nice step for me in the right direction. A big step.

Dirty Deeds is a crime thriller, told in first person, and was such a fun book for me to write I’m already working on the sequel regardless of whether or not I get the contract. But I’d really rather have the contract, so…

Voting is simple. Go to the link, read the Dirty Deeds excerpt, and if you like what you’ve read, hit the vote button and keep it locked in until November 20th, when my 30 day run ends. If I get a ton of great votes I get a contract, and YOU get a free eBook copy of the book as a thank you!

Pimp A Nemesis Friday: Indelible Ink by Matt Betts

Indelible Ink

It’s What’s Inside That Counts

Something lurks inside Deena Riordan. She never once questioned her life in the criminal underworld as the star of Mr. Marsh’s illegal empire and his youngest assassin. Her ruthless demeanor and dark magical powers have kept her at the top of the heap for years. But one day she pushes the sorcery too far and something snaps. Only then does Deena realize she’s always been a puppet of that dark power with no true will of her own.

Now, in order to get out of the crime business for good, she needs to save her sister from Marsh’s angry clutches. It won’t be easy. She’ll have to make her way through friends turned foes, dodge determined federal agents, and stay out of a particularly stubborn fellow hitman’s sights. Worst of all, Deena will have to wrestle with the darkness inside to keep it from swallowing her up again.

Matt Betts

My nemesis Matt Betts has a new book out! And I have to say it’s pretty awesome. It’s an urban fantasy with a twisted main character and quirky side-characters. I saw it playing out in my head as I read it, since Nemesis Betts has such a visual style. I’d love to watch this on the big screen someday. Somebody make that happen, will you?

It came out from Raw Dog Screaming Press. Look here for ordering information. 🙂

Pimp A Friend Friday: Brian Kirk’s WE ARE MONSTERS

monsters

The Apocalypse has come to the Sugar Hill mental asylum.

He’s the hospital’s newest, and most notorious, patient—a paranoid schizophrenic who sees humanity’s dark side.

Luckily he’s in good hands. Dr. Eli Alpert has a talent for healing tortured souls. And his protégé is working on a cure for schizophrenia, a drug that returns patients to their former selves. But unforeseen side effects are starting to emerge. Forcing prior traumas to the surface. Setting inner demons free.

Monsters have been unleashed inside the Sugar Hill mental asylum. They don’t have fangs or claws. They look just like you or me.

So. I read this book a few months ago and it seriously rocks. It’s psychological, dark, well-written, ambitious, and has this thread of compassion that wound straight through. This is Brian Kirk’s first novel and he hit it out of the ball park. Preorders are available now on Amazon.

Also, a blurb by little ole me is supposedly on the cover. Rock on.

It’s a good book. Pick it up. 🙂

Pimp a Friend Friday: The Haunted Halls by Glenn Rolfe

Glenn Rolfe‘s first novel, The Haunted Halls, is on sale at Amazon for 99 cents! Pick up a book and support somebody awesome at the same time. The sale runs until June 15, so you only have a few days. I already grabbed mine!

  • “an atmospheric, spine-tingler that sustains the reader’s attention until its resolution with the inclusion of vile, cringe-worthy moments that’s sure to accommodate the churning of one’s stomach. Without a shortage of unwarrantable violence, sex, and profanity, Rolfe revels in his storytelling like that of a feverish child during a winter day; blissfully engaging himself in the act of snow angels.”- Horror After Dark
  • “Glenn Rolfe’s The Haunted Halls pulls out all the stops in delivering a blood-soaked, sexually charged spook show” – Peter N. Dudar, author of A Requiem for Dead Flies
